Wooooo hoooo I am FINALLY on vacation!!! I honestly cannot remember the last time I was on vacation! I'm taking some days that I had to carry over from last year. I had bounced around the idea of going away somewhere but the airfares were too high. So I'm going on vacation in NYC! lol. Since I live in the greatest city on the planet I'm going to be tourist in my own hometown. I'm continuing with my plan to see as many shows as possible (at the cheapest rates possible) but I think I'm going throw in a trip to the Empire State Building. Haven't been up there in years!
Last week on Valentine's Day Gaspar and I went to see "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." It was pretty good. Very true to the original movie. John Lithgow played the Michael Caine role. He isn't the greatest singer in the world but he's very effective. Not a showstopper but he was fine. Sherie Rene Scott was totally under-utilized. She has a trumpet of a voice and the songs she is given to perform don't give her the opportunity to show off her singing or her wonderful comedic talents either. Don't get me wrong - she is a great performer and very good in the show. But knowing what a grogeous voice voice she has and how hilarious she is I was hoping they'd give her more to do. The true standout - and it's no surprise - is Norbert Leo Butz. I am big fan of his and I really hope he is nominated for a Tony for this. He is outstanding! Of course it helps that the role of Freddy is the best one in the show with a lot of scene-stealing material, tons of physical comedy and great songs. He not only steals every scene he is in - he walks away with the entire show.
Tonight, Dad and I are going to see Spamalot! YAY! We are in the last row of the balcony but at least we were able to get tickets! The show is virtually sold out for weeks. Tomorrow I'm seeing Slava's Snowshow with my friend Meredith. And Thursday is Belfast Blues with Mom and Valerie. I'm taking a break from shows on Friday when Mom and I get our hair done by Aunt Margie. Then the weekend is a play-it-by-ear show weekend.
YAY! VACATION!
