Bascially it's a site where free live recordings can be downloaded and traded. The artists whose music is found on this site allow their shows to be taped and traded and to be hosted on the site. So no worries about any illegal activity here.
Many of the artists are jam bands and music of that nature. But there is a lot of good stuff to be found. For instance, 4 of my current favorites are on there - Jason Mraz, Mike Doughty, Gavin DeGraw, and The Frames. And I've downloaded and burned a few shows that are pretty kickass.
A warning to the not so tech-savvy (like myself) - there is a lot of confusing techy talk and info that I don't understand. And some of the types of files they offer I have yet to learn how to convert into mp3 format so that I can actually use them. But you can also search shows by format.
