Mom, Dad and I went to Lennon yesterday. It was incredible! Definitely my new favorite show! I could easily see myself attending this show many times. It's only in previews but it's in great shape! Yoko Ono herself was there with the director. I know some changes have been made in the last week but this was my first time seeing it so I couldn't tell you exactly what they were. But it was wonderful.
Quick rundown of the show - it tells the story of John Lennon's life from childhood, through the Beatles, meeting Yoko, his life as a family man, to his death. It doesn't hold him up to be a saint or a god but rather does an exceptional job of portaying him as a normal man while protecting a bit of the mythical John Lennon that people adore. It uses his songs as well as many actual quotes to move the story along.
The cast in out of this world, comprisied of some of the best talent on Broadway - Terrence Mann (my favorite theater actor of all time), Will Chase, Mandy Gonzalez, Marcy Harriell, Chuck Cooper, Julie Danao-Salkin, Julia Murney, and Michael Potts. Chad Kimball was out so his standby Darin Murphy went on and he was great. All take turns portaying John though Will Chase serves as the main narrator John. Thanks to creative staging and good direction it doesn't get tiresome or gimmicky, it just works from beginning to end.
This is easily becoming my current favorite. I can't get the experience out of my mind and I'd love to see it again. Might see it as soon as this week - ha! Mom and Dad and I stagedoored afterwards and had our Playbills signed and took tons of pictures which I will post when I get them back.
GO SEE LENNON!
