Wow, it's been a little while since I last posted! Getting settled in my new store - trying to staff up, prep inventory, and general day to day things - it's eaten up all my time. Nevermind trying to spend time with Gaspar, see my parents, see friends, and have a life! I've been busier than ever but also really happy.
And I am finally off today and have no errands to run. Sure I need to clean the bathroom, get the recycling together and a few other things. But for now it can wait.
Soooooo the crappy crappy Tony Awards. As previously stated in other posts, this is the first theater season in a while where I have been out of touch and pretty disinterested in many of the year's offerings. I did not have a chance to see any of the shows I wrote about before. But I am off this Wednesday and determined to catch a matinee. This year is also the first in quite some time where I did not rush home to watch the Tonys. I watched them on my DVR after the fact. And thank god I did because that fast-forward button was put to excellent use.
Though they were boring, I can't say that the awards were predictable this year. Because none of my predictions came true. I thought The Drowsy Chaperone would win Best New Musical. It lost to Jersey Boys. I thought Sweeney Todd would win Best Revival of a Musical. It lost to The Pajama Game. Over and over this happened. The only pleasant surprise for me was LaChanze winning Best Actress In A Musical. I really love her but I didn't think that in a category where she was nominated with legends like Chita Rivera and Patti LuPone as well as "sweethearts" like Sutton Foster and Kelli O'Hara that she stood a chance. I was really excited that she won.
I'd go on and on here but why be as boring as the awards were this year? No host, terrible camera work when it came to the staged musical numbers, flat delivery from most presenters, no sense of passion! And this was the 60th! Where were the tributes? Pretty weak.
But then there's always next season which - at least for me personally - is shaping up to be a lot of fun and pretty exciting! More on that later!
