Norbert!

Last night, Gaspar and I went to Caroline's to see Bill Burr do stand up. Seated at the table next to us? Norbert Leo Butz! For those of you who don't know, he is Broadway performer (Wicked, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Cabaret, Rent), Tony winner and I am a BIG fan of his. He also starred in an off-Broadway musical that is one of my favorite shows of all time, The Last Five Years. I took Gaspar to see it in April of 2002 for his birthday when we were just friends. As a result of seeing that show we ended up getting back together.

So, the waitress is taking our order and I have no clue what I am ordering I am so distracted. Gaspar even asked me "What's the matter?" The waitress leaves and I tell him "I am 99.999999% sure that's Norbert!" He looks and agrees.

The show starts and Bill Burr is freaking hilarious and I'm laughing as loud and as hard as everyone else (he killed) but the WHOLE time I'm totally distracted because Norbert is a foot behind me cracking up too. And his voice is really distinct so his laugh is too which makes me lagh more. I am such a geek!

At the end of the show I'm putting my coat on and Gaspar taps me on the shoulder and says "Say hello!" I turn around and Norbert says "Hi!" Gaspar then explains that his geeky fiance has wanted to say hi to him the entire evening, that we're getting married next month and it was The Last Five Years that got us back together. Norbert was super nice and congratulated us and said "I'm engaged too!" and introduces us to Michelle Federer, his fiance (who was also the original Nessarose in Wicked.) It was great!
