The upcoming Bway season/I love TV

I know I know - there's a lot of Broadway stuff in my blog lately. But there's just so much happening and now that I have a week of theatergoing coming up it's on my mind more than usual.

So there is a ton of good stuff - especially plays - coming up later this season. Here's a bunch that look interesting:

"Lennon" with Terrence Mann, Mandy Gonzalez, Will Chase, Julia Murney, Marcy Harriell, Chad Kimball. The premise of this show has me a little concerned - all John Lennon songs with different actors portraying him at different stages of his life. Ehhhh? The cast is the major reason I want to see this. Anyone that knows me knows I **love** Terrence Mann and am a huge fan of his. I have been eagerly waiting for his return to Broadway. And Mandy! She was incredible in "Eli's Comin'" and "Dance of the Vampires."

"Sweet Charity" with Christina Applegate, Denis O'Hare, Ernie Sabella
So the obvious question is can Christina Applegate really sing and dance? This is not a show you can stumble your way through. It's extremely demanding and dance-intensive. I'm very curious.

"The Pillowman" with Billy Crudup, Jeff Goldblum, Michael Stuhlbar
Haven't read the synopsis but Billy Crudup? Yum.

"The Glass Menagerie" with Jessica Lange, Josh Lucas, Sarah Paulson
I LOVE this play (thank you Mrs. Max and Mr. Donlon - 2 of my high school teachers who both told me to read it) and in the hands of Jessica Lange I can't see how this could go wrong.

"Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf?" with Bill Irwin, Kathleen Turner
Another thank you to Mrs. Max and Mr. Donlon for my love of this play as well. Bill Irwin gets vote of confidence from me. Kathleen Turner? Well - she isn't as consistant as she used to be IMO. As my friend Mike said upon reading this news, at least she won't naked in this one.

"Julius Caesar" with Denzel Washington, Colm Feore, Jessica Hecht
Shakespeare? Denzel? Let's hope I bonus big this quarter. MUST see!

"Steel Magnolias" with Delta Burke, Christine Ebersole, Rebecca Gayheart, Marsha Mason, Lily Rabe, Frances Sternhagen
Holy great casting! Really wanna see this one. I might even get Gaspar to go to this one. He has been in love with Rebecca Gayheart ever since she was the Noxema girl. Okay so maybe he won't actually see the show but I think he'll be up for stagedooring this one.

"On Golden Pond" with James Earl Jones, Leslie Uggams
Wow. Luke Skywalker's dad back on Broadway. Any other casting and I might say eh. But now I'm really excited.

"A Streetcar Named Desire" with Natasha Richardson (Blanche DuBois), John C. Reilly (Stanley Kowalski), Amy Ryan (Stella Kowalski)
Who doesn't love this play? How can you not? It is perfect! YAY John C. Reilly - what a wonderful actor.

And finally...
"Glengarry Glen Ross" with Alan Alda, Liev Schreiber, Jeffrey Tambor, Tom Wopat
I find the film of this play hard to watch the way it was shot. David Mamet's work isn't everyone's cup of tea but I think he is brilliant. (I'd love to see "Oleanna staged again.)

And now I must say publicly I LOVE TiVo. It is the other person that lives with Gaspar and I. It thinks of stuff we'd like to see and tapes it for us to watch when we get home. It tapes our favorite shows without fail. I love you TiVo (I love you too, Gaspar. Hee hee!)

Favorite Will and Grace quote from tonight's show:
Karen: "I need you to get rid of these tickets for me."
Vince: "These are tickets to Harvey Fierstein in Fiddler on the Roof."
Karen: "Well, you can see why I want to get rid of them. Hop to it!"

Two other great shows to entertain you....

I hear that "A Chorus Line" is coming back. Big lover of the music from that show and was too young to see or appreciate this during it's last run.

Another show that I believe is due to hit next year (and I really don't know what to make of this, but I am curious) is the musical version of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" starring John Lithgow. I liked the movie and I love John Lithgow. I'm hoping for a big success with this one.

I also hear that Antonio Banderas might be making his way back to broadway in "The Mambo Kings." I'm crossing my fingers. He shined in "Nine."

I too am looking forward to "Steel Magnolias." I am hoping my contact can come through and get me tickets.
Best to go with a bunch of women and then go to Serendipity's after and cry over a frozen hot chocolate.
