Fun, laughs, good times?

Why must Barry and Fran toy with my emotions?

My mom and I have been looking forward to the revival of "Sweet Charity" since it was announced Marisa Tomei was cast in the lead more than two years ago. Since then, Marisa wasbooted, Jenna Elfman signed on and was then booted, Jane Krakowski was in rehearsals for a time as well, and most recently Christina Applegate was cast as Charity. She gave up the last year, turning down prominant roles in new TV shows and in movies like "Willy Wonka" with Johnny Depp, to rehearse and star in the show.
Headed for Broadway, "Sweet Charity" began it's out-of-town tryout in Chicago. It opened to mixed/postive reviews. With changes in choreography, order of songs, etc. it looked the the show was being fine-tuned on a daily basis in preperation for the Bway run. Then poor Christina took a swing on the lampost and broke her foot! She continued to perform for 20 more minutes until the show was stopped and she was taken to the hospital. Christina was out.

Her understudy finished the Chicago run and Charlotte D'Amboise (who I adore) was brought in to replace Christina for the Boston run. Christina traveled with the cast to Boston keeping up with the continuing, numerous changes. Her injury proving to be more serious than originally thought, it was then announced that Charlotte would also be opening "Sweet Charity" on Bway in previews, possibly through opening night.

Then, mid Boston run, the day after a big NY Times Arts and Lesiure profile on Ms. D'Amboise (and the day after I buy tickets) - the plug is pulled for good. Word spreads quickly and the media reports that "Sweet Charity" won't make it to the Great White Way at all. The Boston run will conclude and that will be that. *sigh* No "Big Spender." No "If My Friends Could See Mer Now." No "Where Am I Going?" No Christina. No Charlotte. Nuttin'!

Whew! So did you all follow that?

NOW. After all this, I make my way to the box office to return my tickets and get my refund. The marquee is still lit up. The prices of the tickets are still listed. Miss Christina's gorgeous face is still plastered all over. NO mention of the cancellation. What the ... ?

Me: Hi. I'd like to return my tickets.

Box Office Man: Do you live in town, miss?

Me: Yes...? Why? Is the show cancelled for good?

Box Office Man: We have not received an official cancellation. Late last night we got word that the show may still happen. So if you live in town you might want to hang on to your tickets for a couple of days. There should be an official announcement by the end of the week.

Me: I'll keep my tickets!

SO now what? I am completely confused! I want this show to happen so bad. This is typical Barry and Fran Weissler (the show's producers.) They have pulled the plug on shows out of town before. They have plugged in different stars (usually of sitcom fame) into their shows in hopes of revitalizing the box office. So what the hell is going on? Is Christina recovering quickly enough to do Broadway after all? Or is their a brand new star close to signing on? Or is this show gone for good? The website makes no mention of any cancellation and still lists Charlotte as the star. Telecharge says they never recived official notice of a cancellation either - just that tickets aren't on sale anymore and are instead being sold at the box office.

What to do? I'm keeping my tickets and trying not to get my hopes up!
